Density Analysis |

| The "Mustang Daily" is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's daily newspaper produced completely by students, including the printing by University Graphic Systems. Catherine Henry, another Cal Poly student, and I worked on a quality control extra credit project analyzing the consistency of density for the green bar at the top of the publication. We began the process of this analysis by pulling every 50th copy of the newspaper as it came off the press for each night that it was printed. Our results showed the amount of variation (Delta E) throughout the run for each night and the variation from night to night. Because we have different head press operators each night of the week, variation in inevitable when densitometers were not in place. One of our recommendations included the use of a densitometer and a standard to be determined by the customer and Web Press Manager for UGS. |
